Try Scuba Experience (Pool)

Step into an extraordinary world with the SSI Try Scuba programme, the best way to try scuba diving for the first time. Our expert instructors guide you in a safe, heated pool, so you can relax, take your first breaths underwater and enjoy the thrill of diving with total peace of mind.

At the end of this short, fun session you earn your SSI Try Scuba recognition card, and you will almost certainly want to go diving again. This is where it all begins.

How it works

1. Welcome & briefing
   Meet your SSI instructor at the pool. They explain the equipment and how it all works, and go through the medical questionnaire with you.
2. Kit up
   Put on the full Total Diving System with your instructor's help.
3. First breaths
   In the shallow end, take your first breaths underwater and practise a few simple skills.
4. Explore
   Once you are comfortable, swim around the pool and get used to feeling weightless.

Bring swimwear, a towel and a t-shirt or rash guard to wear in the pool. It makes the scuba gear much more comfortable.

Oceanauts are based at Greencastle on the County Down shore of Carlingford Lough, right opposite Carlingford. From the Cooley side, the Carlingford Lough Ferry crosses from Greenore to Greencastle in about 15 minutes. Driving round by Newry takes about an hour.
