Discover the Depths: Try Scuba in the Sea

Step into an extraordinary world and discover the thrill of scuba diving with the Discover the Depths experience. Guided by expert instructors, you take your first breath underwater in the sheltered waters of Greencastle Shore, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Northern Ireland coastline. Feel weightless, explore beneath the surface and experience the sea in a way you won't forget.

By the end of this two-hour adventure you earn your SSI Try Scuba recognition card, your first step into a lifetime of underwater exploration.

How it works

1. Meet on the shore
   Meet your instructor at Greencastle Shore for a briefing on the equipment, the dive and safety.
2. Kit up
   Get fitted with the full scuba system and a wetsuit, and walk into the shallows together.
3. First breaths in the sea
   In shallow, sheltered water, practise breathing and a few simple skills until you feel at home.
4. Explore
   Swim out with your instructor and discover the marine life of Carlingford Lough.

Oceanauts are based at Greencastle on the County Down shore of Carlingford Lough, right opposite Carlingford. From the Cooley side, the Carlingford Lough Ferry crosses from Greenore to Greencastle in about 15 minutes. Driving round by Newry takes about an hour.
